Timed head drawing practice: random head angles
Pick pencil or tonal drawings and a time per head, then draw each head before the clock runs out. The drawings come from the same ten study heads as the head rotation reference, at up to sixteen angles each, shuffled so you meet views you would not choose for yourself.
157 drawings in the shuffle.
How to use the timer
At 30 seconds, draw only the big shapes: the egg of the skull, the line of the brow and the direction of the jaw. At one or two minutes, add the center line and place the eye, nose and mouth along it. Keep five minutes for a full construction with the planes of the cheek and the turn of the jaw.
Start a session with short poses to loosen up, then switch to longer ones. When a view keeps going wrong, open that head's page and compare it with the angles either side, or read the step-by-step how to draw the head at any angle, step by step. For value studies, the head lighting reference holds one head still under eight lights.
